November Prayer Focus - Nancy Landerholm
“As we also have forgiven our debtors.” We receive the forgiveness Jesus has won for us. Now Jesus asks us to pray for that same forgiveness for those who have hurt or wronged us. Jesus is not saying that what they did was ok, that it doesn’t matter, just get over it. He wants us to bring the hurts to him so Jesus can heal our wounds and we can forgive. We can be set free from bitterness and show mercy for those who wrong us, just as we have been shown mercy. Sometimes we will be hurt again, but Jesus wants us to keep bringing the hurts to him so he can give us his strength, healing, and grace to rely on him to keep us from bitterness.
Forgiveness is setting the prisoner free, only to realize that you were the prisoner.
