During the next several months we will be using the Lord’s Prayer as a guide for our daily prayer time. This month we will focus on the phrase ‘ Our Father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name’. To hallow is to respect or honor greatly; revere.
Why should God’s name be hallowed? For the Jew, a person’s name was more than just a way to identify them, the name reflected their nature. Therefore, as we begin to pray, we approach God in awe of His holy nature. We honor God’s name and do not use it in flippant or vain ways.
