Food Focus: Free Meals & Pantry

In times of food insecurity, Mentor UMC is committed to being the hands and feet of Christ. All members, friends, and community members are invited to join us throughout fall and winter for various meals and pantry opportunities, ALL FREE.


If you are interested in donating or volunteering for Food Ministry, please see the bottom section.


Meals

Bread, Broth, Brownies, & Bingo Luncheon
The United Women of Faith host a monthly luncheon at MUMC on the second Wednesday at 12 PM. The menu includes Fall Harvest soup, crusty Italian bread, Autumn Orchard salad, and Ghirardelli chocolate brownies. You are invited to a presentation by Rose Darling, Church & Community Engagement Coordinator for Flat Rock Homes, Care Center, and Community Services. Rose will update us on the many ways Flat Rock’s ministries to individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities makes an impact. We hope you will join us on Wednesday, November 12th at noon in the MUMC Gallery! Please RSVP to uwf@mentorumc.org, register online here, or find the signup sheet in the Info Hub.


Open Table: No Reservation Required
This monthly event is open to all and FREE! Join us in the Gallery at MUMC for food, fellowship, and fun from 5:30 to 7 PM every second Thursday of the month. We’ll eat from 5:30 PM to 6 PM then enjoy different programming (fun) each month. On November 13th, enjoy Pizza, salad, and Charlie Brown Thanksgiving dinner on the tables (buttered toast, popcorn, pretzel sticks, and jelly beans). We will also watch the Charlie Brown special together and participate in a fun centerpiece craft. Even though we require no reservation, give us a heads up to how many people to expect by RSVPing online here.


Thanksgiving Day Dinner
ALL are invited to join us at Mentor UMC on Thursday, November 27th from 11 AM to 1:30 PM for the 35th Annual Thanksgiving Day Community Meal. This is a free dinner that you can eat here at the church OR have delivered (Lake County). Contact the church office (440.255.3496) to request delivery. No RSVP necessary for in-person dining.


More Than a Meal
More Than a Meal happens every last Saturday of the month. Our mission is to give a sense of connection as well as a free meal (plus dessert). Many of those who need food are also in need of seeing a smile and hearing a kind word. Join us in the Gallery at MUMC at 5:30 PM (door open at 5) on Saturday, November 29th.

Food Pantry

Upcoming Distribution
This fall, Mentor UMC has two pantry options. The Pantry at the church is by appointment ONLY and requires calling ahead for the November Distribution on Monday the 17th and Tuesday the 18th. This pantry typically serves Lake County families but severe need will be met if enough inventory. Come shop an array of non-perishable groceries and select toiletries for free. If you are sick, we will bring the food out to your car.


POP UP Food Pantry
Mentor UMC will be visiting neighborhoods in need in November by bringing the food to you! Dates and locations will be updated as soon as possible. This pop up will include non-perishable foods and $5-10 gift cards for fresh dairy & produce.

Support Food Ministry

You can support MUMC’s Food Ministry a number of ways. Volunteer to cook, serve, or clean up for a meal, designate your giving to “Food Ministry”, and/or drop off non-perishable items to the church.

  • MUMC Food Pantry: Please drop donations off in the COMMUNITY CENTER BIN at MUMC (right outside the South doors of Fellowship Hall by the ramp). Donate any non-perishable items OR find the MOST needed items on our missions page: https://www.mentorumc.org/local_missions
  • POP UP Pantry: Please drop off donations to the BIN IN THE GALLERY. This is a SEPARATE pantry from the MUMC Food Pantry. Items most needed are non-perishable foods, can openers, and $5-10 grocery store gift cards for dairy & produce purchase.

    New Member Sunday

    Join us for New Member Sundays on November 9th and 16th where we’ll celebrate our new members during worship. if you wish to be a new member, get in touch with a pastor.

    Food Donations

    Sign up online here or in the Gallery on Sunday for food donations. Please look at the signup carefully in order to see the details about each item. All food can be purchased at GFS (Gordon Food Service). Prices, quantity, and type are include on the signup. Please drop donations off at the church office by Sunday, November 23rd (pies on the 26th).

    Volunteers

    You can volunteer to prepare, cook, package, serve, or deliver food for this year’s meal. Sign up online here or in the Gallery on Sunday. Please look carefully at the times for each slot.

    Gingerbread House Show 2025

    The Gingerbread House Arts & Crafts Show is a United Women in Faith event. All proceeds benefit local, national & international UMWF mission projects.


    WHEN: Friday, Nov. 7th from 4 PM - 8 PM AND Saturday, Nov. 8th from 10 AM - 3 PM
    WHERE: Mentor UMC


    Join us for the 118th Gingerbread House Arts & Crafts Show Friday, Nov. 7 from 4 PM - 8 PM and Saturday, Nov. 8 from 10 AM - 3 PM! FREE admission and parking! Shop the wonderful array of handmade items with over 70 local crafters, Attic Treasures, Bake Shoppe, UWF Crafts, Rada knives, and Middlefield cheese. This craft show is sponsored by the Mentor United Women in Faith. All proceeds benefit the local, national, and international mission projects of the UWF.     Volunteer

    Volunteers needed! Take a shift at the cheese table, bake shop & country cupboard, UWF craft area, be a “floater”, or help set up throughout the week. Help is also needed for clean up! Contact Carol Hoskinson at cjh44236@gmail.com for details and scheduling.


    Donations

    ATTIC TREASURES
    Now’s your chance to do some cleaning out before the holidays. We are looking for donations of small appliances, pots & pans, bakeware, kitchen items, knick-knacks, crystal, dishes, jewelry, etc. (It’s like a mini-rummage sale). Bring your items to the church the week of November 3rd.


    COUNTRY CUPBOARD
    Keep us in mind as you gather in your fall harvest and prepare home pickles, jellies, applesauce, etc. Also, donations of homemade baked goods, snacks, candies or any of your homemade specialties are needed. Please make sure to list all ingredients on the package or on a list for display. Items can be left in the church kitchen beginning Wednesday, November 5th.



    United Women in Faith (formerly Mentor United Methodist Women)
    CRAFT ROOM
    Your donations of handmade arts & crafts – ornaments, wreaths, knitted/crocheted items, potholders, table runners, etc. Whatever your talent is. Donations can be brought to the church the week of November 3rd.

    Shepherding Summit

    All are invited to attend the annual Shepherding Summit on Saturday, November 15th from 11 AM to 2 PM. LUNCH INCLUDED! We will discuss church leadership and processes. This is helpful information for leaders, volunteers, and members alike.


    If you have attended before and wish to reuse your binder, please drop it off to Kenna at the church office.

    Charles Wright Day Trip

    Join Pastor Tammy and others on a day trip to the Charles Wright Museum in Detroit on Friday, February 6th through the East Ohio Conference.


    The Charles Wright museum, or “The Wright”, is an African American History museum dedicated to exploring and celebrating the rich cultural legacy of African Americans (thewright.org)


    DETAILS and SCHEDULE:
    We will meet at Mentor UMC at 7:15 AM, leave at 7:30 AM, and arrive around 10:50 AM at the Charles Wright Museum. We will leave the museum at 3:00 PM arrive approximately at 6:20 PM at Mentor UMC. Cost is $40 (includes travel, admission, and lunch).
