Open Position: Communications Specialist

We are looking for an organized and effective Communications Specialist to join our office team. The ideal candidate is innovative in their approach to communications, has a heart for people, and an energy around engaging and connecting with others to further Mentor UMC’s mission, “to lead all onto a path of Christ-centered discipleship.”
This position is responsible for comprehensive creation, design and execution of communication in and outside of the church through print and digital tools. The Communication Specialist shall exhibit strong communication, organizational and relational skills. Computer skills and experience with web design and social media platforms is vitally important to communicating with our church family and the community we serve.

Qualifications: An effective communicator that embraces a team environment and continually seeks new and innovative ways to connect with the congregation and community members. 2-4 years in an administrative role emphasizing multi-format communication. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Possess strong computer skills with understanding of website design and social media platforms. Utilize basic graphic design and have creative vision/ideas. Strong organizing, planning, and coordinating skills and the ability/willingness to use a team approach to create open lines of communication.

Responsibilities: Identify and implement new and innovative communication methods to continually modernize the way we communicate with our church members and people in the community. Design, review, and print weekly bulletins, announcements and monthly newsletter, including collating and mailing. Manage the church website, introduce, create and share new content. Maintain social media profiles and post to (Facebook, Twitter, SnapChat, Instagram, Podcasts, YouTube.) accounts with the purpose of reaching church/community members and building followers. Be the content data entry expert and gatekeeper including edits, updates and new page design for all sites.
Serve as liaison for the Communications Team, including attending monthly meeting and serving as life cycle manager for projects on Trello Boards. Work with the committee on design and printed pieces and promotion of events. Design and post TV Monitor Slides and send weekly email messages. Greet, answer phones, work with Office Manager. Work with the whole church staff team to advance the mission of the congregation. Set annual goals for communications that are in line with our vision and then evaluate how those goals were attained or modified during the year.
