MUMC Youth have been giving time over the summer to serve others through disaster and poverty relief for over 40 years.
Our annual Youth Service Project (YSP) is a week of service to homeowners who need repairs or updates done on their homes. With guidance from experienced adults, you will be amazed at what you can do!!! We make sure to have some awesome adventures along the way so we can experience the area we are traveling to. It’s a week unlike any other, and it’s a fun way to give back just a little. We have so much.
In June of 2014, our group traveled to Plymouth, NC to assist CROSS, a United Methodist Mission (Christians Reaching Out in Sacred Service). We worked hard amid some very hot days repairing a roof for a church in need, revamping an old country store into a home for a wonderful lady, painting, repairing siding and more! We had a blast on the way stopping at Colonial Williamsburg, Busch Gardens Theme Park, and the Wright Brothers National Memorial in Kitty Hawk.
This year, we are returning to Northport, MI to assist Spirit Journey, a ministry supported by the West Michigan Conference of the UMC, to do something a little bit different! Spirit Journey is a ministry recently created to help Native American youth in the Leelanau Peninsula by providing opportunities to learn and practice respect and understanding for themselves and others, while sharing God’s word and the love of Christ. YSP will be building a new construction cabin and bunk beds for Spirit Journey’s youth for camps and all other year round activities! We are excited to be able to help this worthy ministry.
Please pray that we can bring the love and healing of God to those we serve, and be transformed ourselves in the process into people who live more like Christ.
